Motivation Mondays – “Here’s To The Crazy Ones”

Unless you don’t watch the news or go on the Internet you probably know that the world lost an incredible mind last week with the passing of Apple founder Steve Jobs.

Anyone who knows me can probably guess that I was upset.  The amount of text messages I received that day asking if I was okay was a bit unhealthy but nevertheless, I am okay.

While I never knew Mr. Jobs personally, (and I’m sure a lot of you can agree with this) his influence is felt in every aspect of my daily life.

Where would I be without my iPhone or iPad.  How could I get any work done without my Mac.  Even if you aren’t an Apple freak, do you use a mouse?  Or a personal computer?  He had a hand in a majority of the technology we use each and every day.

But this post isn’t meant to mourn or depress, it’s to motivate.  (And I certainly need all the motivation I can get after a depressing weekend of Philadelphia sports :( )

Why was Steve successful?  Yes, he was a genius and had some crazy foresight into the future that a lot of us don’t have.  But more importantly, he was an out-of-the-box thinker.

How many of you are simply searching for someone to give you the “ultimate” answer to make your business succeed without having to do any thinking on your own?  I know that I felt like that for awhile.

The key is being able to compile all the information you have at your disposal and pave your own path to success.  Be “a crazy one,” as the video above so poignantly illustrates.

Steve pioneered the way for many things and he did so by giving people what they wanted.

Look at the iPod, there were many MP3 players on the market at the time.  Steve took this and said how do I make this deliver on what people REALLY want.  The thought of paying for digital music was a pipe dream in 2001 and now the iTunes store is the largest music retailer on the planet.  Crazy?  I think not!

Getting internet marketing training and advice is perfectly fine, it’s how you learn.  But testing and adaptation is what’s going to set you apart from the rest of the pack.  Try things, get crazy, and you will find success.  Make Steve proud.
